The Program
Who is the Family Getaway for?
Family Getaway is designed for families who want to spend meaningful time together, meet other families, get active, learn something new and still have space to slow down.
You don't need to be a surfer, entrepreneur, wellness enthusiast or particularly “adventurous” family. The program is designed for different ages, interests and experience levels, with plenty of opportunities to join together or do your own thing.
How many families join Family Getaway, and what ages are the children?
We keep Family Getaway intentionally small, with around 10-15 families joining each edition. Children are mainly between 7 and 15 years old, creating a fun mix of ages and interests.
We know that one of the biggest questions for parents is whether their child will find other kids they can connect with. That's why we design the programme to give children plenty of opportunities to meet, play and spend time together, while also creating smaller, age-appropriate groups for activities where needed.
Do I need to know how to surf?
Not at all. Complete beginners are very welcome.
Surf sessions are adapted to age and experience, with participants grouped according to their level. More experienced surfers will also be challenged appropriately, so you won't feel like you're starting from scratch if you've surfed before.
Surfing is included in the program by default for adults and children aged 7+. If you have any concerns about surfing or would prefer to discuss your participation beforehand, just message the program organiser.
How many people are in each surf group?
We keep the surf groups small so everyone gets meaningful time with the coaches.
Participants are first divided into appropriate subgroups according to age and level. As a general guide, we aim for around 1 coach for every 4-5 adults and 2 coaches for every 4-5 children.
The exact groupings may change depending on conditions, age and experience.
What other activities are included besides surfing?
Surfing is just one part of the week.
Depending on the day, the program can include:
- Recovery walks
- Yoga and movement
- ATMOS experiences
- Pool time
- Separate parent and kids’ activities
- Joint family activities
- Evening gatherings and activities
- Shared meals
- Other workshops and experiences
The program has a planned structure, but there is also room for spontaneity. If there's something you'd love to do as a family or something you think the group would enjoy, you're welcome to suggest it.
Do we have to participate in every activity?
No.
The program gives the week its rhythm, but participation is flexible. Some activities are designed for the whole group, while others are optional.
You might surf, skip the next activity and spend some time by the pool, or join everything on the schedule. There is no pressure to “complete” the program.
What if my child doesn’t want to participate in an activity?
That's okay.
We want kids to feel part of the group without feeling forced into every activity. There are different options throughout the day, and our team will help families find something that works for their child.
What happens if the surf conditions aren’t good?
Surfing is dependent on ocean conditions, so the exact timing and location of sessions may change.
Our surf team will make the call based on the conditions and safety. If the ocean doesn't cooperate, we'll adapt the schedule and make the most of the many other activities at DOMA.
Kids & Family
Can we bring grandparents, younger children or our dog?
Absolutely, families of all shapes and sizes are welcome.
Grandparents and extended family are encouraged to join and can enjoy the program at their own pace, whether that's taking part in activities, relaxing at DOMA, spending time with the kids or simply enjoying the surroundings.
Younger children are also welcome. Children under 7 stay with our caregivers while parents are surfing, and up to 8 hours of childcare is included in the program. For families who need additional coverage, we also have a trusted network of caregivers available to arrange extra childcare separately.
And yes, dogs are welcome at DOMA too. Just make sure to add your dog to your accommodation booking in advance.
Is childcare included?
Yes. Up to 8 hours of childcare is included as part of the Family Getaway program.
Children under 7 stay with our caregivers while parents are surfing, giving you the freedom to enjoy your session without having to worry about the little ones.
Additional childcare outside the included hours can be arranged separately through our trusted caregiver network.
How does the kids’ StartUp Lab work?
The StartUp Lab is a loosely structured, hands-on entrepreneurship experience designed to get kids curious about ideas, creativity and building something of their own.
Children don't need to arrive with a business idea, technical knowledge or any previous experience. They can come with an idea, discover one during the week, or simply explore and see where their curiosity takes them.
They'll learn by doing, developing an idea, testing it, building a simple first version, getting feedback and eventually presenting what they've created.
AI tools are welcome and can be part of the process, but they're not required.
Kids are encouraged to bring a laptop if they have one, particularly for building and preparing their final presentation. Parents are also welcome to participate, share their experience or simply support their child's idea.
Accommodation
Do we have to stay at DOMA?
If you're travelling from outside the area, we strongly recommend staying on site.
The Family Getaway is designed around DOMA, with activities, meals, childcare and evening programming taking place here. Staying on site means everything is close by and you won't need to worry about getting to and from activities.
For local families, it is possible to join the program without staying overnight. Parking is available on site.
What’s included in the accommodation?
Your accommodation package includes your selected room and the room bar.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks are also included as part of the Family Getaway program.
Your room is cleaned and serviced every day during your stay, so you can simply enjoy the getaway without worrying about housekeeping.
Is Wi-Fi available?
Yes. DOMA has Wi-Fi throughout the property, as well as a dedicated coworking space for parents who need to work during their stay.
Can I work during the Family Getaway?
Yes, although the program is intentionally full and designed to help you disconnect from your normal routine.
DOMA has a dedicated coworking space where parents can take calls, answer emails or get some focused work done.
The program covers the full day with activities and experiences, so we recommend planning only for essential work rather than a full working schedule.
Can I book a massage or use the spa?
Yes. Massages can be booked separately during your stay, subject to availability.
You can also enjoy the spa and wellness facilities at DOMA, with access depending on what is included in your particular package.
Getting Here & Around DOMA
How do we get to DOMA from Lisbon Airport?
The easiest options are Uber or a DOMA-organised airport transfer.

Once you're at DOMA, you won't need a car for most of the Family Getaway program.
Is parking available?
Yes. Parking is available on site for guests and local families attending the Family Getaway.
What’s around DOMA?
